KBF Diversity Fund Grant Applications Now Available

The Board of Directors of the Kentucky Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of grants from a Diversity Fund and encourages all interested nonprofit organizations working on efforts to increase diversity in the legal profession to apply. Grant applications are due October 18, 2019. The Fund’s first priority is to ensure the continuation of the Kentucky Legal Education Opportunity (KLEO) program. The Fund, however, will also support other efforts to promote the inclusion in the profession of individuals from diverse and other underrepresented populations. The Kentucky Bar Foundation awarded $260,000 in 2019 at its annual Fellows and Partners for Justice Society Luncheon in Louisville on June 13, 2019 in conjunction with the Kentucky Bar Association's Annual Convention. The Foundation has awarded more than $3.5 million since its grants program began in 1988. Thanks to the generosity of Kentucky attorneys and judges, the 2019 KBF grants will support 32 nonprofit organizations as they work to provide access to justice and law-related education across the Commonwealth.

The Kentucky Bar Foundation awarded $265,000 in 2017 grants at its annual Fellows and Partners for Justice Society Luncheon in Owensboro on June 22, 2017. This is the highest amount awarded in the Foundation's history, which has awarded more than $3 million since its grants program began in 1988. The Kentucky Bar Foundation’s mission is to further the public’s understanding of the judicial system and the legal profession through programs and philanthropic partnerships that help those in need. One of the ways that the Foundation serves this mission is by awarding annual grants to law-related organizations and projects. The application period for the Foundation’s 2017 grants will be open from January 6, 2017 through March 15, 2017. To be eligible for grant consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Guion L. Johnstone has been named the Executive Director of the Kentucky Bar Foundation and Kentucky IOLTA Fund, effective December 30, 2016. Johnstone is an attorney from Lexington. Raised in Paducah, Johnstone received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Transylvania University, where she majored in Psychology and Spanish. She received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and her Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work.
